Where do you get your fire info?

For the second time in as many weeks, we heard the planes, rushed out on our deck, and saw a huge plume of smoke rising just over the hill, somewhere in Diamond XX. Here are some of the places I go to get near real-time info on what is happening:

Facebook groups (search for them in Facebook, then join as a member):

  • Motherlode Fire and Police Info
  • Gold Country Fire EMS and Law Enforcement
  • Tri – County Fire, Police and More (probably the fastest to post factual data)

News sites:

  • MyMotherlode tends to have articles up pretty quickly and usually includes a map of the incident.

Scanner feeds:

Please share other sites or info sources in the comments.

Thanks & stay safe!

Hi, Jim. I have a portable radio scanner loaded with the frequencies used by the local fire agencies and Cal Fire. I found the frequencies at http://www.radioreference.com. Listening to the “air boss” on the air-to-ground channel gives me a very good idea of how well things are going in controlling fires. When he starts sending the air tankers back to Columbia, I know the situation is under control.
